Many of us face a great risk, risk that can be life threatening. I am talking about heart diseases and stroke, something that is totally unpredictable and can take us down in no time. However such risks can easily be averted if we make certain changes to our lifestyle. By followingheart a few simple steps everyday anyone can significantly lower the chances of suffering from any cardiovascular disease.

1. Dietary Changes – Diet plays a big role in our well being and the first step to a healthy diet always begins from home. By merely substituting saturated fat foods to fiber-rich fresh fruits and vegetables one can significantly change his/her overall health condition. Stop or bring down the consumption of fast foods and packaged foods, instead enjoy the bounties of nature.

2. Stay Physically Active – 20 to 30 minutes of exercise everyday can bring hundreds of benefits to your health. Regular exercise improves blood circulation, makes your heart muscles stronger, builds up stamina and also helps to burn the excess calories in your body. Physical activity helps in the development of muscles and reduces the amount of fat in your body.

3. Quit Smoking – Surely everyone who smokes has seen the statutory warning in cigarette packets; smoking has no benefit as such. Rather the nicotine in cigarettes can obstruct blood circulation in the blood vessels and increase chances of cardiac arrest or strokes. It is best to give up smoking as early as possible and find other healthier ways of combating stress.

4. Be an Occasional Drinker – Drinking wine and alcoholic beverages have their own benefits but only when they are taken in moderation. In fact having a glass of red wine actually helps the heart but only in moderation. If you are a regular drinker then it may be hard to give up overnight so consult with someone and slowly reduce it.

5. Take Supplements – Our diet may not always be able to provide our bodies with the required amount of nutrition required so supplements are sometimes recommended. Supplements are made to help you meet your daily nutritional, vitamin and mineral needs. If your diet isn’t adequate to fulfil your dietary needs, you may consider taking supplements but before doing it always ask your doctor about it.
